Stuart ‘Stu’ Bithell started sailing at the age of seven at Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club in the Northwest of England. In 2012, Stuart competed in the 470 class at the London Olympics, winning a silver medal. He went on to claim gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in the 49er class alongside helm and current Emirates GBR driver Dylan Fletcher.

Stuart competed in the first season of SailGP alongside Dylan Fletcher on the Great Britain SailGP Team as flight controller, finishing the season in fourth place. He returned to SailGP in Season 3 as wing trimmer for Switzerland, then went on to sail as wing trimmer for Germany during Seasons 4 and 5.

Stuart joins the Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team ahead of the 2026 Season, following Emirates GBR winning the 2025 SailGP Championship and becoming the first team in the history of SailGP to do the treble by winning the 2025 Season Grand Final, the Impact League and topping the season standings on points.
