Stuart ‘Stu’ Bithell started sailing at the age of seven at Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club in the Northwest of England. In 2012, Stuart competed in the 470 class at the London Olympics, winning a silver medal. He went on to claim gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in the 49er class alongside helm and current Emirates GBR driver Dylan Fletcher.
Bithell competed in the first season of SailGP alongside Fletcher on the Great Britain SailGP Team as flight controller, finishing the season in fourth place. He returned to SailGP in Season 3 as wing trimmer for Switzerland, then went on to sail as wing trimmer for Germany during Seasons 4 and 5. Ahead of the 2026 Season, Bithell joined the Emirates GBR SailGP Team, reuniting him with his Olympic teammate Fletcher for the first time since they won gold together in Tokyo.
