Ben Cornish grew up sailing a mirror dinghy on the Exe Estuary and progressed into the National Junior Squad, racing with partner Sam Mason. The duo went on to became Under-16 National Champions. Cornish then moved up from junior sailing to compete in the single-handed Laser class and was selected for the RYA Olympic Development Squad. In the four years he spent with the team he was selected to represent Great Britain at three consecutive World Championships. At the end of 2013 he switched to the heavyweight Finn dinghy, becoming a rising star in class and training partner to the Olympic hopeful, Giles Scott, during his campaign for Rio 2016. One of his career highlights racing in the boat was a gold medal win at the Finn World Cup Final in Santander. Cornish has also competed in two America's Cup as part of Sir Ben Ainslie's British Challenge. The 33-year-old is no stranger to SailGP, having previously worked with Emirates GBR when Grinder Matt Gotrel was injured in an overboard incident at the Sydney event in Season 3. He also joined Season 4 Champions Spain as a Grinder for the Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix last November. For the 2025 Season he returns to Emirates GBR as a Reserve Sailor while also supporting Coach Rob Wilson in the Performance Team
