Emirates GBR is acutely aware of our global impact. Recognising our significant footprint and the challenges ahead, we've taken proactive steps towards a more sustainable approach, showcasing our commitment through various initiatives.
ACTIONS AT EVENTS
The Team makes a conscious effort to get involved with local sustainability projects at SailGP Events. Example project we have supported include:
- Beach cleans in Cadiz, Spain
- Kelp harvesting in Los Angeles, US
- Wetland restoration in Christchurch, New Zealand
- Seahorse habitat projects in Sydney, Australia
Working with these projects not only leaves a positive impact on the areas we visit, but also allows us to showcase these projects to a wider, global audience and tell the stories of the important work they are doing.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
At the SailGP event in Los Angeles, we donated wetsuits with old branding to the LA Yacht Club. This not only supports local sailing clubs but also ensures the reuse of materials, prolonging their lifespan and providing quality gear to aspiring sailors.

RESPONSIBLE WASTE MANAGEMENT
Our sustainability efforts include robust waste management. Educational campaigns with customised posters comply with local regulations, guiding our team and visitors in effective waste separation. We strictly enforce a no-single-use-plastic policy, encouraging reusable alternatives for everyone on-site. All team members are provided with reusable bottles to ensure there is no need for single-use plastic.
PROACTIVE CITY IMPACT
Ahead of city visits, we engage with hotels and accommodation providers, advocating the elimination of single-use plastics and reducing laundry during our stays, thereby lessening our lasting impact in each location.
BRANDING
We employ an innovative approach to recycle old materials for new purposes. For instance, we repurpose previous branding into beanbag filling, demonstrating our dedication to creatively reducing waste.
SMALL CHANGE, BIG DIFFERENCE
Every team member is constantly looking at their role and working practices to see how they can be improved to reduce our impact on the environment. Our motto is ‘small change, big impact’ which means that even the tiniest detail of how we use a product, material or a working process adjustment can end up making a substantial difference on our overall footprint.

One such project to stop using ‘single use cable ties’ on our F50 Race Boat, this was led by shore team member, Henry Woodhouse. Learn more about this project here.
